  1. How long does it take to have a website developed?
The quickest a website could be online is approximately 1 week, but typically it takes 2-4 weeks to complete the development process. The timeframe depends on many factors including the complexity of the design, whether technical solutions (e.g. data capture, member’s log-in, online payment etc.) are required, and whether the content (text, graphics, photos) already exists.

  2. How much does a website cost?
We specialise in producing professional websites at a low cost. We do not have the overheads of a large website firm and can, therefore, offer exceptional prices, starting from £100 for a single web page. A small multi-page website would typically start from £500. To obtain a quote relevant to your project, please take the time to fill out our online form. The information you provide here will not only enable us to give you a more accurate quote but will also ensure we understand your specific website needs.

3. How do I minimise the cost?

Understand what you are looking for. If possible, find a website with a design that you like the look of that we can use as a starting point for your design.

Think about the structure of the site. We will help you to design a site with good architecture, but it helps if you already have a clear idea of how you want your site to function.

Provide the content of the site. This includes text, graphics, logos and photos. Again, we can do all these things for you, but it helps if you can provide us with digital versions of your material.

Keep the optional extras to a minimum.

  11. After a site has been created, how do I maintain it?

After the initial go-live of your site, you can either agree a maintenance contract with Inky Mouse Designs or we can hand maintenance over to you. The cost of a maintenance contract depends on the frequency and type of changes that you plan to make, but starts from as little as £50 per quarter.

  12. Could I create my own site?

The language which is primarily used to create websites – HTML – is not overly complicated. However, it does take time to learn how to use HTML to create an effective and attractive website. Given time, and an investment in software (good web design and graphics packages start from around £300 with good professional packages costing from £600 upwards), it is perfectly possible to create a good website. The key factor is time; there is likely to be a significant amount of research, as well as trial and error, before you are happy with the outcome.

An intermediate option is for Inky Mouse Designs to complete the initial design and hosting of the site, and then to hand over maintenance of the site to you. We will happily provide advice on which software to use as well as help you through the first updates to the site. Non-substantive updates (e.g. to text and photos) are fairly straightforward and we can also provide guidance on more complicated tasks such as adding new pages.

4. What is a domain name?

A domain name is a unique website address that identifies your specific website and allows others to access or link to your site. Details of your domain name are held by a Domain Name Registrar and can be accessed publically via the WHOIS database. You may wish these details to be public or you may wish to keep your personal details private and register though Inky Mouse Designs instead.

5. What domain name should I choose?

A domain name should be easy to remember, simple to type and unambiguous. It should also reflect the purpose of your site and must not conflict with any existing companies or websites. We can help you find the ideal domain name if you don’t have something in mind already.

6. Can you purchase the domain name for me?

Yes. We can handle domain name registration and renewal for you. Alternatively, you are welcome to purchase and maintain the domain name yourself.

7.What is hosting and can you arrange it for me?
The files that make up your website need to be stored on a publicly accessible computer (or server) called a host. There are many companies that own a vast number of servers and that can, therefore, offer web hosting relatively cheaply. We normally use UK2.net, but if you have already identified a host or bought host space we will happily use an alternative. For more information about our hosting options, please see the hosting page. Please note that we do not charge extra for hosting; the price you pay is exactly the same as if you organise your hosting directly through UK2.

8. Can I stay with my existing host?

Absolutely.

9. Do you do e-commerce solutions?

We do not currently offer e-commerce solutions.

10. Why can't I find my site in search engines?

It takes a few days for a website to be picked up by search engines so you will not be able to find your site immediately by searching. After your website has been found by a search engine, there are tricks that can be employed to boost its position in the SERP ranking. Our site designs conform to search engine optimisation (SEO) best practices.
